Immunotherapy
Immunotherapy is a form of cancer treatment that uses the body's own immune system to recognize, target, and destroy cancer cells. Unlike chemotherapy, which acts directly on cancer cells, immunotherapy works by enhancing the activity of immune cells (such as T cells).
This approach is often called "cancer therapy by proxy" because it engages the patient's natural defenses to fight the disease. Common types of immunotherapy include immune checkpoint inhibitors (which block proteins that prevent immune cells from attacking cancer), monoclonal antibodies, and other agents that stimulate the immune response.
